Indie Theatre Sandy Relief Festival

Sean Williams

The League of Independent Theater and the Innovative Theatre Foundation, in conjunction with The Community Dish, would like to invite any and all theater companies that were affected by Hurricane Sandy to apply for a spot in the Indie Theatre Sandy Relief Festival this December. Application details are below.

The morning after the storm, the Independent Theater Community did what every community around the city has done - we donated our time and money and those of us with power opened our doors to help those who were immediately affected. But we also began to brainstorm ways that we could help the huge number of producing organizations that were hardest hit by the storm. People had lost a week of rehearsals and had to postpone an opening, or they lost a week of shows and revenue. Some companies lost their only fundraiser or their only shot at a major review. The one thing we all know how to do is put on a show, so we started to arrange a festival.

Immediately, theaters began donating their spaces - even though they were as affected by the storm as anyone. We now have three theaters in three boroughs hosting a festival on the weekend of Dec. 20th, 2012. 90% of the box office will be divided between all of the producing organizations, and 10% will be donated to the LIT Fund. We want you to be a part of this festival, to help yourselves and to help the rest of the community that was affected by the storm. We will also have, at every venue, an opportunity for audience members to donate to The Red Cross. Your company will get one performance slot to produce anything you want, and with your help we'll do our best to fill the house.

December 20 - 23, 2012

The Secret Theatre in Queens, Access Theater in Manhattan
and The Brick Theater in Brooklyn

90% of ticket sales are returned to festival participants
10% is donated to the LITFund
Also audiences will be able to donate to The Red Cross at every venue

We will rally, and we will come out of this storm stronger than ever. Thanks for your help, and for making this city the greatest destination for artists in the world.
